Fisher House-Essential Kits 2021

On May 28, 2021 Carol Baker, Ivory Gwin and Sandra Franklin delivered “Essential Kits” to Fisher House located in Hines, IL.  Fisher House is a temporary living facility for families of Veterans who are currently in the Hines VA Hospital.  These families come from different states and Fisher House allows them to stay in the House so they can be close to their loved one.  Fran Powers was one of the Project Leads for this virtual project. Fran along with her family, and 20 other AT&T Pioneers (both Active and Retired) volunteers, put together at least 5 essential kits each that included the following items: Toothpaste, Toothbrush, Dental Floss, Comb, Brush, Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Wash, Lotion, chewing gum, snacks, ink pen and a Word Search or Crossword Puzzle. AT&T VOLUNTEERS we SALUTE YOU! Thanks for taking time to virtually volunteer your time to do this project and show love to our Veterans. The manager at Fisher House was so surprised at the items in the bags and overly grateful for the 107 bags we delivered.

Tools for Learning Backpack Project 2020

Each year AT&T Pioneers do a “Tools 4 Learning” Backpack Project.  Well, 2020 came with its set of challenges when the school year was set to start with virtual learning!  Determined to make it happen, some of our Pioneer volunteers went to schools during the hours of curbside lunch pick up or Chrome book pickups and we handed out backpacks! While social distancing, we was able to visit a total of 3 schools, Paul Cuffe STEM Elementary School (Chicago), Gordon Elementary School (Posen), Kellar Middle School (Robbins).  We also had the opportunity to participate in a backpack giveaway event in the city of Hazel Crest and another one in the city of Country Club Hills.  We knew the need was greater than ever before and therefore was committed to distributing backpacks. Because of our determination to provide backpacks to students across multiple communities, we was able to donate a total of 183 backpacks.

Thanks again to the Pioneer Volunteers and your Friends & Family members for making this happen!!

On May 1, 2021 Carol Baker and Sandra Franklin delivered needed house supplies to the Ronald McDonald House near Ann Lurie Children’s Hospital.  The supplies  included paper towels, disinfecting wipes, antibacterial soap, tide pods detergent, dishwashing detergent, nitrile gloves, Keurig coffee cups, steam pans and a Bissell Bagless Vacuum Cleaner. Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, they had a 2-person limit and a no touch policy.  We were allowed to use the carts to transport our items but we did have to leave them in the vestibule of the location. We were also allowed to take pictures with Ronald McDonald😊
